
Talkin Things introduces a new line of products – the omnidirectional RAIN RFID tags that feature decent performance and do not require expensive specialized chips.
In RFID technology, the orientation of the tag towards the reader is an important factor in achieving optimal read performance. In environments where tag positioning is uncontrolled and a greater read distance is required, complex multi-antenna configurations or tags based on dual-differential antenna ports can be used. But both of these factors make a significant contribution to the total cost of the solution.
At Talkin’ Things we always look for innovations that can bring optimization. This is why we have developed and proudly present the Stork™ family – a new line of omnidirectional RAIN RFID tags. They are based on a common chip (NXP Ucode 9) and provide excellent reading performance from any angle. The TT-501D – the largest of the Stork™ family – features up to 15 m (50 ft) reading distance in font-back directions and up to 10 m (33 ft) if oriented sideways (90° and 270°). For the smallest one, the TT-301D, it is 10 m (33 ft) and 8 m (26 ft) respectively.
With such a great performance and optimal cost they are a perfect choice for any solution where omnidirectional reading is of value.
The Stork™ family currently features 3 antenna sizes:
- TT-501D Stork™ 50 – 50×50 mm (1,97×197 in)
- TT-401D Stork™ 40 – 40×40 mm (1,57×1,57 in)
- TT-301D Stork™ 30 – 30×30 mm (1,18×1,18 in)
The tags are designed for maximum performance on cardboard or similar material, as their main purpose is for logistics, but provide comparable results on plastics too. The Stork™ range may be extended in future to cover even more specialized needs.
